About Tampa Bay Clays

New Member Class

Coach Owens is the founder of Tampa Bay Clays Youth Program, Inc.. He is a Certified Youth Shotgun Coach through NRA/USA Shooting and an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.

Beginning in Sept, 2021, Coach Keith Whitehead will be the coach in charge on Saturdays along with others.  Each coach has passed a thorough coaching certification program and background check. Also, as a non-profit, we are governed by an active Board of Directors who set the direction for the organization and the endowment.  Most importantly, we value and appreciate the participation of our family volunteers who we would not be successful without.

Membership Renewal

The Tampa Bay Clays offers instruction for youth  and collegiate students  who are interested in learning how to shoot the various clay target sports including American Trap, International Trap (Bunker Trap), Handicap, Double Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays and Five Stand.

Prior to shooting in the orientation class, each participant and their parent/guardian will be required to complete a consent and waiver form.  Becoming a member of the program costs $125 which is paid at the conclusion of the orientation.  The first year membership fee includes your registration with the Amateur Trapshooters Association (ATA), the ATA's youth program known as AIM, and the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP).  Participants also receive a team t-shirt.

In addition, we encourage the families of our young athletes to become members of the Silver Dollar Shooter's Club (American Trap) and Tampa Bay Sporting Clays (International Trap - Bunker). Practice rounds will be available to our youth program members at $2.00 per round.  Annual membership renewal is $125.00.  Finally, a practice shotgun will be provided if you do not have one of your own.

TAMPA BAY CLAYS    Youth Clay Target Shooting Team

Trap shooting is a great sport to introduce youth to firearm safety and shotgunning.  Tampa Bay Clays, the youth trap shooting program at the Silver Dollar Shooting Club (American Trap) and Tampa Bay Sporting Clays (International Trap), offer several ways for youth to enjoy the experience of shotgun sports.  Our youngsters have the opportunity to choose whether to shoot recreationally or competitively through a number of different shooting programs such as SCTP, ATA, and USA Shooting.

Our shooters practice year-round and participate in the event shooting season which typically runs from September to March competing individually and as a team.  We are fortunate to be associated with the Silver Dollar and Tampa Bay Sporting Clays in part because they each sponsor world class shooting events.

New shooters in our program begin in our instructional orientation program (Give It A Shot!).  The youth receive instruction with a certified volunteer coach.  Our coaches group shooters into practice squads based on experience and shooting level so the shooter will feel comfortable as he or she progresses.
